VP ute reverse light problem after conversion

Hi, I just bought this ute and it has been converted to a manual, the reverse lights don't work, I had a look and the person who did it has left the auto selector switch ( big round thing), in it and wired up to it to get reverse lights but i'm sure that's a bad idea, does anyone know how to wire these up properly?, I can find VR VS stuff on conversions but i'm not sure I can use the same wire colours and things, need help quickly as it needs to in for a RWC here in vict and they don't like bodgy jobs.

Ok, I followed this conversion instruction

and have shorted the wires for the car to start but shorting the reverse light wires did nothing, the reverse lights are still not working, any ideas please.
