Hey ppl,

I've got a VP V6, has a knocking noise (like a midget inside the engine with a small hammer!) at idle and only slightly at higher revs.
BUT with the belt off it goes away, I'm thinking Harmonic balancer is shagged, there are a few cracks in the rubber around the internal circumference but no chunks of rubber gone.
Anyone had a similar fault or can confirm my educated guess?

cheers

Check that your power steering pulley's bolts are tight, but most likely the harmonic balancer.

Id try spinning the other pulleys while the belt is off, just to eliminate that its not a bearing in say the alternator. But i think ur on the money with the HB.

Does the HB wobble?
