VQ Statesman 5ltr

Just bought this today, '91 VQ i think it has about 204,000 on the clock, the body is not bad, the only rust i could see is in the boot, but i can weld that up, the paint on the roof is bad but i really couldn't care, the interior is ok some rips on the door cards but its a vn i can get another one next to nothing, and it lost 3rd gear in the auto so ill be driving it up the road to the shops until i get a new gearbox and it has 2 months rego

the 5ltr is running good, drove it today and i was surprised of the power it had and i only had the accelerator down like 25% (first time i drove a v8), after driving a prius for so long it is weird to drive something like this ( first time i drove a commodore) it is harder to steer but ill get used to it,

but the whole reason for buying this was to put all the running gear into my vk + i got it for cheap, $1200

when the vk is ready ill swap the running gear and k frame etc,

now i was thinking what to do with the shell when im done with it but its to nice to scrap, so im thinking of fixing it up as much as i can and get a $500 vn v6 and chuck the running gear and k frame etc in the vq and give it to my sister and her son

Ok, i went to see it again today but i cant take it home until i finnish paying it off,

this is not very pretty, is this common?

Goodluck mate, brought a VN Calais with full VQ interior for 700. Looks good though man but what a C#nt of a spot for rust?

The rusted section can be easily replaced by unpicking the panel and replacing it but you would really want to save that car to do it because of the cost

id cut a small peice from a donor and just stitch it in, clean up your welds, prime and fog in some color , job done... give it a vacuum and a respray and shell come up a treat...

i dont really want to spend much money on it, i will fix all i can and maybe give the roof a respray but the only major things wrong with it is the gearbox and rust hole and the rest are just little things like, tighten the the drive belts and get a new heater hose tap etc ( I hope :unsure, but since my vk wont be ready for a long time i might just renew the rego when it expires, fix or get a new gearbox and use it on my L's

nice buy. you going to build the engine for the VK or leave it stock and throw it in?

if you do give the car to your sister:

-give the inter a good steam clean, armorall the dash, some floor mats
-give the roof a lick of paint
-good cut and polish all around
-original VQ or VS caprice rims
-lowered


would be a nice clean daily. good luck anyways
