So I've been snooping around the forums for about 6 months now, thought I'd make an account, and say hello.
I have bought a Vr berlina for $400 as a temporary car until I get money on my 21st for a VY Calais.
From what I can tell it doesn't need very much for a roadworthy apart from tires, radiator and it has a hole in the exhaust

I'm planning on putting some foglights in the stock bar and was wondering if the wiring would already be behind the bar somewhere?
Also any suggestions on cheap modifications including cosmetic would be appreciated, I already have a lower lip kit and rear and side vernetians that I have to paint then those two should be going on.

wiring (if there) will be taped up just behind/on top of the headlight will be a 2 pin plug, kinda looks like a figure 8 plug. if so u should have most of the wiring and contact points in the relay and fuse spots.

check there and post up.

Good pick up mate. First things id spend money on is oils and filters. Give her a good service front to back. Pull the plugs and check them. Clean or replace the air filter and if its the standard box check out some threads on here about modding that. Then id move onto suspension and brakes or exhaust. This is all fairly cheap stuff and will get you familiar with the car. Enjoy

Thanks guys for the tips and feedback, I'll definitely be lowering it, if I wasn't going to lower it then a step ladder would probably be best haha.

Yeah I'm going to be servicing everything aswell. Oil, fuel and air filters, brakes, all fluids, belts, plugs and leads.
I think I will leave the trans service to the professionals as my two older brothers recently done theirs themselfs and not long after they started to slip.
If I need to replace the exhaust because of the hole I think I will just put in the extra $100 and get a cat back.

By the way she's auto with 240,xxx
Anything else I need for the service?
Also it's a 94 vr berlina but has irs and an airbag steering wheel like from a vs? Is this just because it could have been one of the last made?

I'm really hoping the wiring is there otherwise I don't think I'll bother with foggies, as I mentioned I'll be getting a vy in a couple months so I'd prefer to spend money on things I can transfer straight over like springs, speakers, wheels ect. And just keep the stock Vr parts in the shed so I can chuck it back to stock
I'll have a look around the headlight in the morning and see how I go with the wiring

Sorry but I think youll find the springs are different, VY is heavier and benefits from stiffer springs. Check manufacturers websites for part numbers to confirm.

Good to hear you are keen on looking after most of it yourself. The trans service is rather easy, if youre just doing oil and filter, something must've gone a bit wrong with your brothers.

Edit : just checked kings website and part nos are almost identical so prob would work but better check with them or a suspension specialist before you swap em over and chance hitting bump stops

Thanks buddy, yeah I'll definitely be lowering it whether the springs will fit in the vy or not, the rear is ridiculously high!

Nice pickup mate. I wouldn't bother with a specialist for a transmission service. Albeit a grubby job, it'll be one of the easiest jobs to do on the car. $15 for kit plus fluid and you'll knock it on the head In well under an hour.

Very few parts would fit the vy
