I've just got my self a VR ute that has had a 5 litre conversion and it's not running well. I have found various issues so far but just doing the general lookover before I get to far into one thing to fix .
So far I've found a vac leak near 4/6 cylinders on inlet manifold around injectors area, could be injector seals or inlet gasket, yet to confirm.

It has a Crow 4761 cam fitted and it's probably way over kill as I'm guessing engine is other wise stock except from cam and pacemakers but I could be wrong as I don't have very good to no history to go on, but that being said it should run better than it does as it seems to be fair dinkum pouring fuel in engine and believe several faults may be present.

I'm far from finished diagnosis of poor running but this one has me a little stumped as I can't find any info so thought some one here may know.
The ecu original sticker removed and a paper sticker attached with the words " Delco Injection Control Equipment" printed on it with memcal configuration listed as being 1 bar , no knock sensor , a serial number and also a "G" hand written in the corner. I will attach pic too . Also there is a serial type port fitted to the side of the housing which I'm assuming is for tuning via pc/laptop .
I did try a standard VS auto ecu as I had one here from a previous ute I had years ago and it doesn't run at all with it, mind you I'm totally not sure if it should or not, pretty sure my old one was series3 5 litre so I think that is an issue perhaps in memcal config ?
Anyway I did a quick search and found nothing on this mystery ecu .
Just trying to figure out if there could be an issue here as well as other components before I go to far?
Cheers for any info at all

@Immortality and @someguy360 should have a pretty good idea on what you need. Those two both really know the 304.

Interesting. Sounds like it has a pcm hacking serial port fitted for some real time tuning but that car should have a 424 ecu that uses the obd2 port not that it really matters for a manual car.

Hopefully it also has a PCM hacking forum tune file in it.

Ideally you'd need to find someone who can read/modify that tune.

Yep ok . Mhhhh , my car is an auto is only thing , is that a problem would you think ?
If I was to simply put a std VR 5 litre ecu in I guess I could see straight away that the mod ecu or tune in it isn't good/right ?

thanks

Depends on the Auto, if it's the older style 700R4 it's a purely hydraulic box that doesn't require computer control. Is there a TV cable for the transmission attached to the throttle body?

I'm fairly sure there are wiring differences between the 808 ecu you have now and the later 424 so it's not just a matter of unplugging one and plugging in the other but I could be wrong.

Also just unscrewed cover to have a look see, doesn't look much like a std memcal at all .
I have a good going 16176424 out of a running vs 5 litre but when I plugged it in did want to run , any idea why it wouldn't run at all with that ?

Fairly sure the wiring pinout is different between the 424 and the 808.

That 808 has been fitted with a flash memory memcal but I'm not familiar with the make. Basically it's been set up so it can be tuned without needing to unplug and burn a new memcal each time you want to make a tuning change.

Did the car ever run right?

Sorry I just bought it and I don't know if it did or not . There is no kick down cable to throttle body at all. This vehicle was a v6 column shift auto originally. There is some crappy cut and shut done to the engine loom to original body loom that freaks me out a bit, I did find a local with a vr 5.0 auto engine loom and matching ecu I was nearly thinking of getting , that would with any luck fix two issues but now I'm not sure if it would be compatible . Is there a table that lists ecu to auto type and 5 litre series specifically ?

I didn't think the V6 auto would go on a V8, especially column shift?
