While yes it should fit (ecotec to ecotec), I do believe later model cars had higher output alternators to cope with increased electrical loads so the VS alternator might not have enough juice to keep everything happy.

Well I did a Google search on VY Ecotec alternators and the product also says it fits VS, VT, and VX so I do believe that the alternator is all the same across the board for Ecotec Commodores...

Yes it'll fit as previously stated, just check the amp output matches.

Some are rated 85 amps others 100amp and police spec 120amps

does anyone have info or part numbers on the 100 & 120 amp units? or where to source??

Don't have part numbers but
85 I believe on VS
100 was on VT or VX to VY.
120 was police spec units, which are hard to source.

That info could also be totally wrong. Going off memory here.

finding quite a few hits online for the 120amp unit.....what I didn't realise is that there are 2 variants of alternator for the ecotec.....Bosch and what some place call a Mitsubishi type
