VT ecotec balance shaft gear, How does it get oiled?

Hi All

How does the balance shaft gear get oiled?
Does it have a squirter? does it simply get splashed by slinging off the cam gear?

I ask because after pulling the timing cover off to replace the chain and tensioner,
I found the cam gear and chain oily as expected but the balance shaft gear was bone dry
and the teeth clean and shiny like it hasn't had any oil on it.

I'm not looking at disconnecting the shaft.
