Vt injector/fuel pump fuse Questions

Ok, So my injector pump fuse keeps blowing. From searches i have checked the below

(I have 2 VTs so not short for parts)

I have tried the fuel pump relay and still shorts.

I have checked my wiring for the injectors and can't see any issues.

I have a full tank of fuel,


So then i tried to dodgy with a straight piece of wire (yes, stupid i know)

Wire instantly melted and smoldered (only on for 2 secs in the reds)
I did notice smoke coming from the center of firewall in the engine bay.

What else can i do to locate my issue?



Car history -

Bought it a week ago not running (300 manual vt with many spares)
stopped running a week before i bought it because of said fuse, original owner couldn't care less.
I will be using the manual gear in mine, but was hoping to use the engine in a 4x4 buggy im doing and want to get it sorted before stripping

interesting ......dont know what to make of that !

you are not new to commodores



do you think the fuel pump has burnt out ?

if you bridged the relay to start the pump and it didnt pump

undo the fuel line at the back - refit a good relay -check the fuse .... try again . .. if no fuel

I would be suspecting the fuel pump in the tank

you could fit an external electric EFI fuel pump ... if it is too much to take the petrol and the tank out

I do eventually need to take the tank off to get the fuel sender (the awesome little do dad that tells you how much fuel you have out)

I might just wire an inline pump into a jerry can to see if this fixes the issue.

Ill check what i can this arvo and see how I go.

fuse 28 to pump
or fuse 34 to injectors
does fuse pop immediately or after time

Fuse marked injectors (not sure which number) and as soon as i turn it to on (so all the dash lights are on)
it pops

not an easy fix
you need the injector wiring diagramme...i dont have it

The car in question doesn't have an lpg system installed, does it?

From what I remember, that EFI relay just feeds the positive side of the injectors and the wire to the DFI module.

Nope, no LPG, or signs of one being there in the past.

And its not the relay in question atm, I believe it will be either pump, pump wiring, or injector wiring.

I might check the fuel pump when i get a chance and go from there.
