VT Temp Problem

My wife was driving the VT today when the temp skyrocketed and she got the hot message on the panel then it dropped quickly aswell. Later in the day i took it for a drive and it gradually climbed to about 3/4 on the gauge. After about 30 mins i went for another spin and within 3 minutes it shot straight up to hot then went to normal range within 5-10 seconds when i got home maybe 2 minutes later i felt the radiator etc and it was not hot at all so i carefully took the radiator cap off and it wasnt hot at all??? any ideas????

bleed ur system, probably air in the system, if that dosent help, take it for a 5 min drive to get it to operating temp, then turn on the heater, which should open the thermostat manually. If driving with the heating on and thermostat open fixxes it replace ur thermostat.

Perhaps a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

If the radiator is cool after it over heats chances are that the thermostst isn't opening. Very easy to change.

cheers will replace thermostat and flush cooling system as it is due anyways.

Does the fan kick in??.. Someone nicked my fan relay and the temp went way over half we ****.

my was the waterpump as soon as the system losses presser it jumps straight to HOT

splurge out & change hoses & heater taps as well...

hey ppls , my vtss ser 1 is doing the same thing how do you tell if its the thermostat or the water pump as one person mentioned cheers tim
