Hi guys
about 6 months ago i was driving along
got some fuel and went to start her up again and my battery was flat as a tack like nothing at all
Lucky i was at a servo so i got a new exide battery
before i chucked it in i grabbed a spanner just to be sure and put it across both terminals of the old battery not even a spark totally dead
any ways the car has been awesome
up untill a couple of days ago when the exact same thing happenned
but this time i took the battery out and charged it

Does this seem like a slowly deteriorating alternator
because just a bit weird dont think theres anything wrong with the 6 month old exide battery
im thinkin something else
has anybody else had this problem or knows what it could be
any info would be priceless guys as im a bit out of pocket this time of year :(
cheers

Spend $10 on a multimeter. Much better than sticking a spanner across it :bomb:

Check voltage across battery with engine off. Should be around 12v. Then check with engine running, should be around 14v if alternator is working.

Also measure between the engine block and the battery with engine running and headlights on, should be less than 0.5v, ideally less than 0.1v. The block to body earths often go bad and cause charging problems. I wack an extra one on any used car I buy.

Also did it work after you charged it, could also be immobiliser/key problems.

i got my new alternator from this guy in the link , i spoke to him on the phone etc and he seems real genuine , i asked about the alternators because there not name brand like bosch , the guy has a factory overseas that makes the alternators to his specs (same as bosch) there about half the price of a bosch alternator in my town , ive had mine for a couple weeks and its been perfect , has 5 year warranty aswell , Brand NEW Alternator TO Suit Holden Commodore 3 8L V6 VS VU VT VX VY 110A | eBay

hey man yeah this alternator is perfect , i chucked it in ,everything was perfect , exactly the same as the old bosch alternator that came off the car (the old one was 100 amp , new 1 is 110 amp ), like i said i spoke to the ebay seller , he has a very good rep on ebay which ive always found to be a very good thing ,he also does rebuilt starters cheap as , like 70 or 80 bucks delivered ,il also b grabbing 1 of those when i need to , 1 thing i noticed about the old alternator was i had a very leaky rocker cover rubber gasket , and the old alt looked like it had oily **** in it ,also had a burning smell b4 the old alternator completely **** itself , anyway while the alternator was off the car i redid the rubber rocker cover gaskets ,shes all sweet as now

Got my multimeter today guys
At the battery terminals it read

Ignition off : 12.43
Ignition on :14.03
With lights on 13.53
lights and air con on 11.92
and with the accelerator on slow revs it went up to 13.60
Then after all that turned everything off and was just idleing
Was at 13.62
Any advise on that guys

Also with the negative of multimeter on the negative on the battery and the positive of meter on alternator housing read 0.04
also now on idle with nothing on wont read over 13.60
