I am yet to take the pic's sorry.
I have read the add and you said the VX is diff from the berlina? < im not too familure with the diffrences in middle seat's between the model's.

I have a spair seat in the gagrage, I have not take it apart yet, I was going to take it apart and get pic's for you along the way, To show you how to remove the part.
I have done it a few time's. But yet to get pic's.

The seat is out of a VX excecutive i believe, So if thats what you need ill get the pic's sorted for you..

Sorry, I was going to get them earlier for you but just when i saw some confusion above, I thought i missread and you need something diffrent to what i have...

How to remove unlock button.

I took them pic's for you.
Sorry, The quality is not too good, I had to use my phone camera. Could not find my other camera.
This should give you a rough idea as to how to remove the button.

Get a flat head screwdriver and pry the trim up like this.
2012-07-24 19.36.12.jpg

Then from there, Lift the trim up like so
2012-07-24 19.36.46.jpg

Then lift the trim out of the groove like so
2012-07-24 19.37.14.jpg

Same for the bottom.
2012-07-24 19.37.28.jpg 2012-07-24 19.37.44.jpg

Then flip the bottom trim out.
2012-07-24 19.38.04.jpg

Now start to pry up the other side.
2012-07-24 19.38.23.jpg 2012-07-24 19.38.42.jpg

Seperate the trimming like so
2012-07-24 19.39.08.jpg

Now start sepertaing the top trim
2012-07-24 19.40.43.jpg

Once you have got the trim removed on all sides, Seperate the materail from around the button like so
2012-07-24 19.40.16.jpg 2012-07-24 19.40.25.jpg

Pop the button thrugh the foam.
2012-07-24 19.41.22.jpg

Seperate the plastic from the foam.
2012-07-24 19.41.38.jpg 2012-07-24 19.41.55.jpg

Now you will be able to see the lock mecinism.
2012-07-24 19.42.16.jpg

To remove the button, There is a clip here(top)
2012-07-24 19.42.49.jpg
And here(bottom)
2012-07-24 19.45.54.jpg

Once you got the clip's undone, Slide it upward.
2012-07-24 19.46.56.jpg

It will slide right off the pin
2012-07-24 19.48.10.jpg

Getting it back together is just the oppisite of what you did.

The trim slot's back into the groove, Just press it in, It will clip back in.

Hey mate, i finally got a spare minute to give it a go today after about 40 minutes i had it all sorted, thanks to your little tutorial, really appreciate it mate!! Thanks
Saved me a fortune, the local holden dealer wanted $280 plus parts, part cost me $45 & didnt have to remove the seat at all. Thanks again..

Came across this thread and changed over my centre button. Wasn't as difficult as I thought, also didn't need to remove the seat however as you said it would have been much easier. Thanks mate!

Just replaced the button on my VX Calais, wouldn't have had a clue without the instructions above!

Some info that may help - I found that removing the lock mechanism (2 fat screws holding the steel plate) made it easier to get at the back clip holding the button in place. (Did the swap with the seat still in the car).

Also because the Calais also has the pop-out armrest, there are 3 trim bits surrounding the armrest (similar to the ones in the first few pics above) that you need to pop out (they are on the main section of the backrest, not the armrest itself). Once you've levered the main ones out you should be able slide your hand between the foam and the plastic back and pop out the 3 around the armrest hole.

And when putting it all back together, its much easier to put the button assembly in last!
