If the revs get stuck higher up then normal when engine is cold after pushing the accelerator (or not), even in park, then it is very likely the throttle position sensor, had the exact same problem, and that new TPS solved it.

Take engine cover off, it's on the front side of the throttle body, you'll see a plastic device with an electrical plug in it, about 4-5cm in size, just google tps for your model and you'll see pics and instructions hoe to remove by searching here on the forums, it's simple, takes a couple minutes to do and can get them for $20 or so on eBay

Great diagram thank you! So i need to replace the plastic thing that the plug goes into or the actual plug? Is it easy enough to take off the throttlebody? And does the throttle body need to be off the car? Cheers

Did you pull the negative off the battery while removing the throttle body ? You may need to take it off for 20mins then start car , idle in park , the idle in drive with foot on brake , same with reverse and neutral it should reset ya idle

When unplugging anything, it's always wise to remove the negative lead on the battery.
Removing the throttle body is NOT necessary.
Just un plug it and remove the 2 screws that hold it in.
Remove it carefully, as there will be a small plastic adapter on the
throttle body shaft (I think there is also a small spring).
DO NOT LOOSE THIS.
(The adapter is only there because the TPS is suited to different engines and different engines have different size throttle body shafts.
So instead of making different TPS's they use an adapter).

When you refit the TPS,turn it 30 degrees clockwise before placing it on the adapter and the throttle shaft.
After it's in place, rotate it 30 degrees anticlockwise to it's normal position.
Replace the 2 screws and plug.
Replace the negative battery lead.

There is no need to reset the idle, as the TPS will remember the setting and always return to base idle.
This feature allows for different tolerances between throttle bodies.

It's basically 'plug and play'.

EDIT: Make sure you get the one specifically for you engine.
As there are a few different types and they all look the same.
For example....The 5 litre TPS looks exactly the same as the 3.8 litre TPS.
The only difference being the position of the throttle body shaft connection.
