As much as you can mate. Even if it's only 2 litres it all helps prevent spills.

Use a thin tube, and only only suck it out when the fluid is warm but not hot, otherwise your tube will deform and close up.

Just did it today guys worked pretty well the gasket was paper thin when i took the pan off. Gears are changing way smoother now

If your transmission has a dipstick then yes same process.
If not you have to fill it through a little plug hole in the side of the box with a pump or syringe of some kind.
Which trans have you got?
