Hey guys,

Just wondering what would be best to increase the power created from an ecotec?
Im not expecting performance like a v8, but traveling at 100km/h in 5th gear it just seems to be lacking. Even the smallest of hills and it just starts to die away.

Any easy mods? or should i start saving for an ls1 to drop into it?

Car has done 155xxxkm. Just serviced it. Runs smoothly

Thanks

Mace manifold insulator and or roller rockers will do a bit, with a good exhaust system. But it's all chasing after the wind really, you've got a couple of options.

ls1 as you say, obviously the best option.
l67 a bit cheaper and less work.

Another v6 performance thread......

Good service on engine, box & diff,
Change filters,
Then once that's done, time for mods,
Cai,
Plenum spacer,
Manifold spacer,
Roller rockers,
Tune,
Have a squiz at mace for those.
Exhaust, cat back or full, hit up user "not an abba fan" does good deals on a decent exhaust, a few people have bought from him as have I.
diff gears,
Then if you want to get serious, forced induction.

How much you wanna spend, how fast you wanna go?

Oh, and use the search button, works wonders for answering 99% of your questions.

VY comes stock with a CAI.

I've already had a look though the forum even been through most of the ecotec performance threads. None of which seemed to answer my question ;)

Changed the diff, gearbox and engine oil in the last month, likewise filters.

@NathanVY, Cheers I've been looking at rockers might give it a go. Ive got a plenum spacer coming so ill see what that does first.

Blower, turbo, Nitrous, get a V8. It's all been covered many times before. Try doing a search before opening another pointless thread.

Um, change down dude. I get the same thing in 4th even with positive pressure. Admittedly there's .1 ratio in your 5th gears favour, but beyond 1:1 an Emo doing less that 2k rpm is going to labour against 1500kg and gravity.

You actually would need the low down nm of an 8 to defeat this, which an Emo simply doesn't have, L67 excluded.

Seems like you are willing to spend a bit of $$$$$ for what???? Just to keep it in 5th @ 100kph. My ol, VY V6 manual ute use to pull hills with no problem in 5th,but then again it had a 3.45 ratio diff. Have you thought of changing that, but I would be doing what Hangman and Pollushon suggested, cost you nothing for a quick flick of the wrist back to top
