Hi All,

I have an issue in my VY V6 Auto. It seems to shudder at around 40km/h - 50km/h while accelerating and you can definitely feel it while coasting at say 45km/h. It feels like it’s coming from the centre of the car.

I have done the following already.

Changed trans fluid and filter.
Changed both engine mounts.
Checked Trans mount, seems all in tacked.
Changed Diff Fluid.
Replaced Driveshaft Centre Bearing
Wheel Alignment
Had 2 different mechanics look at it.

I’m out of ideas, no one can find the problem

Car has done 304,000km. V6 ecotec. Auto 4l60e. 2004.

Cheers all!

Is there enough fluid in it, ? after the fluid and filter change.
as you have to go through a procedure to correctly check Trans fluid.

Do you know what gear it's in when it vibrates ?
At a guess, I would say either 2nd or possibly just shifted up to 3rd
Other than what you have done, it sort of points to the Transmission is faulting.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes fluid is good, and I did it properly. It’s at good levels. It happens as soon as it goes into 2 gear and sometimes in 3rd as well.

Possibly get it scanned and maybe see if it has any DTC recorded,
or have it scanned live, to see its Up shifts, and Down shifts.
Haven't had much to do with them over the years, so I can not say what it will be.
There maybe another member that is bit more familiar with the 4L60e units.

I’ve had it scanned and this is what they found

Is the MIL on ?

Ahh, that list puts a different light on the subject,
With those combined faults, especially the cam shaft errors, that would cause it to shudder/vibrate,
Download the service manual [on a PC] and check the items in question.

Has there been any work done on the car recently?, any changes to the Dash, or Engine ?

Quickly reading the faults, It does sounds like a common denominator that possibly being a cable/loom fault, and/or a bad earth/ground connection.
the word "Circuit" "Harness" Poor Electrical Connection" indicates a lot of possabilities.

The main ones I would be looking at first
P0405 - EGR Flow Sensor A Circuit Low Input
P1361 -
  • Top Dead Center Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted
  • Top Dead Center Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection
Dont worry about the Key Rolling Code and Slip ring error at the moment.
As they usually get logged on most cars I scan,

The EGR has been deleted. The engine had cracked a head so head gaskets and second hand head was put on about 10k ago. CEL came on with a rough start but I had it scanned and cleared about 1k ago and has not come back.

I have a spare Cam sensor I could put in and see if that sorts that.

The car sometimes won’t start unless I pull the keys out completely and put it back it. I suspect the immobiliser kicking in

The EGR system is there for a reason,
Being its now not pollution compliant

Did you install L67 heads on it?
