hello everyone

my dad has a vy commodore and all of a sudden it wont start, won't even jump start, everything works tho radio, lights elec windows ect.

so he got his spare set of keys and while they was in the ignition he pressed the lock button then unlock and it started, so then he put the main key he uses back in and it wouldn't start again.

and the key he always uses he had to replace the casing and the buttons but the metal part is still original, so now both keys won't start it. it also says its up for a service would that be stopping it from starting or is it something to do with the keys and the security immobilising it?

thanks
Jade.

Original key sounds like it went flat. Has he had the new keys coded? There is a metal tab coming out from the old key head contacting the metal keyway. Is that broken, or rusty? Service won't stop it from starting, it will be a BCM to key security issue. Is there a flashing red padlock light in the dash?

Hello

both keys unlock and lock the car fine just won't start the metal tabs are fine, when you open the car via the door the alarm goes off

would it be a solonoid or starter motor problem?

Take it to a auto sparky or Holden dealership. They can hook it up to a tech2 scanner and will be able to tell if the BCM is fried. They are repairable also. Worst case scenario is you get a second hand one with keys.
