1999 vs ute series 3
Hey guys

Ive recently purchased a 2007 VZ SS Ute with the L98 engine and 6sp manual. From my understanding the L98 engines only came out in the Thunders? The bloke i brought it from thought it was a Thunder as it has the L98, twin hump hardlid and larger front brake rotors. The only problem is there are no Thunder badges, only ss on the side and tailgate. I brought it thinking it was a ss.

Is there a way to confirm it is a ss and not a re badge Thunder?

Cheers!

Give a Holden dealership a call and get them to check the VIN to see what it was sold as?

Hey mate, yeah check the vin, and it should be a 17 digit number.

Number 8 should be a H meaning it has the L98, and if confirmed there, then it's a Thunder, as no vz ss utes had the L98 apart from Thunders

Yeah mate! It will have L98 for the engine code also.

You'll also find the hints for a thunder are the pbr brakes in the front, leather seats will be standard, along with climate control over the turn style A/C knobs and of course the twin hump hardlid.

Underneath the hardlid you should also find a holden sticker as most ss's that source aftermarket twin humps won't have the genuine sticker.

Hi, I'm looking at a car the exact same deal, it has the L98 but no thunder badges and no PBR brakes that I can see, in the photo they are grey not red, just looks like standard SS breaks....a bit confused. No hardlid either, id say previous owner has sold it.

As above. If the build plate has L98 on it then it’s a Thunder.

Ye right, its an 07 without the PBR brakes though, just confuses me. 180kms, auto, decent condition. ya reckon its worth 17k?

The drive train alone is worth 60% of the car.

All 06/07 had the 6ltr but I’m not sure which 6ltr it was.

I spent a long time looking for a 6ltr Cross8. Like unicorns.

The change over was Jan 06.
For what ever reason, Holden called it the VZ 06/07 update. Every other person would have called it VZ series 2.

Mine missed it by 2 weeks :(
