Hi all
Is there any real difference between in fuel consumption in these years and models ?

Looking at manuals in the VZ and VE series 1 but either auto or manual in the VE series 2 sidi. 3.6 engines.

What to expect?

You will have a bigger impact on fuel economy by driving sedately, keeping your boot empty, tyre pressures at 40psi etc than you ever will by scrutinising different models.

Fuel cost is almost negligible even between a V6 and V8 in practical terms. The difference is cents per week. They will both use heaps if you have a heavy foot. Official fuel economy figures are for Govt. paperwork and are barely attainable.

This, pretty much.

Few things to note,
Don't treat a manual V6 like it's got a Tremec in it. It doesn't. Synchros go on all AY6 boxes if you abuse them. Clutches also have issues, I'd suggest a Single Mass Flywheel conversion if you notice any clutch issues. Mantic seems to make the best one.
Auto sixers with the six speed automatic (6L50) have higher resale value than their manual counterparts and will more likely not be as heavily abused since your likely previous owner will have a family... Unless they liked doing doughies with their kids in the back like the last owner of my Wagon did. The 6L series automatics are solid boxes, and they're also much better in traffic than the manuals.
