The reason why there are two types of water pump is simply because of the front pully......the older version has no centre hub while the new one has.. There is a universal pump which has an additional spacer which gives it the extra gap.

I bought it for less than $80 from MOTORPIT in NOBLEPARK (VICTORIA) and the pump was made in japan.
The rest was over priced..............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't need to pay 70 bucks to get it replace......................

NOTE: Take great care when you're removing the pulley from the water pump....the bolts are easily damaged.........
also check the main bolts holding the water pump....they might need replacing because mine were slightly corroded.

I was under the impression that series2 VS to VY also had a different impeller depth but I'm probably wrong. I know that when I bought mine at Cheapa Spares they had one for VN to VR, one for series 1 VS and one for series 2 VS and they reckoned none were interchangeable but thats not to say that someone has come up with a universal pump.
