This morning the aircon was working fine. I went shopping, and after that I get warm air, but the compressor was engaged. So I thought refridgerant has leaked, and there is just enough to keep the pressure switch on. 4 hours later another trip, and compressor is not engaged with aircon switched on. So it seems all the R134a has gone now. But then return trip home, I have cold air again! The only thing I can see wrong is the fan speed switch. That is knackered: I cannot slide to off or speed 1, it will only go to the right side.

Yea the switches are quite long in the tooth now, if your ac on/off light works, set the fan speed, and if the ac button is switched on, but the light isn't, wiggle the fan speed knob a little and you may find the light and ac works, with the switch to one side.

Speaking from experience.
