hmm

Ok sorry for a delayed reply i had to work, i was unaware they were the new range, but i was told that the ones on that site were "it". Now i guess they could be very similar? Any major difference's between the ones i highlighted and the older models?

aero has a point, i dont really wanna fork out big bucks on two nice amps if i only need to buy cheaper ones!

To cause more complication if they are the older models, will i still need two of the jaycar $400 ones? or will cheaper ones do? Same RMS to the older ones or what? I am ment to recieve them within 3 days via mail, will be able to tell you guys what exact model they are then.
cheers.

Yeah the old Type-R's are 1500watts peak and 500watts rms, where as the new ones are 2000watt peak and 750watt rms so will make a huge difference to the type of amp you need.

I would still suggest using two Jaycar mono blocks, they are a great amp and great prices. You will be hard pressed an amp or two for less.

Just my personal opinion but dont know of how high a quality the Jaycar units would be?? I have always been a firm believer of you get what you pay for, and that I only deal with companys who specialise in that field (ie: Alpine)

I know that saying well, unfortunetely for me alpine means big bucks, especially if i need two amps. And im guessing i'd need to double the price of the jaycar amp, or even triple to get a price for alpine, which i just cant afford. :(

Jaycar is of VERY high quality. The actual brand of the amp is RESPONSE and it was originally designed by Cerwin Vega.

They had 2x100Wrms amp for $199 and it won many many amp shootouts. It actually generated more power then it claimed where as most generate much less then then what they claim.

RESPONSE have been in business for many years as an Car Audio Company, you won't hear of them much because they general don't produce many units, nothing is built on a factory line.

The reason it is so cheap is because Jaycar is an electronics distributor to places such as Dick Smith, but then they opened themselves to the public and kept their wholesale prices available to the public.

If you have an ABN you can actually goto Jaycars distributor and pay even less. Their name is ELECTUS Distribution. You can only deal with them if you have an ABN but if you know someone who does, it would be well worth the effort. You may save yourself close to $80 on each amp.

The Mark-up on car audio gear in Australia is VERY high. Because Jaycar don't deal exclusively in car audio, that mark-up isn't present in their car audio prices.

I have used Response gear for quite some time. Their splits have usually performed over Alpine, Clarion, Sony (although thats easy;)) Only the VERY high quality gear exceeds Response. I've even built 2 SPL cars out of Response equipment and one SQ car. They all have performed extremely well.
Honda CR-X
3x12 DVC Response Subs
3x 300Wrms Amps
147.8dB
Oh Yeah!

I've always found Response gear too be an untapped goldmine in car audio gear.

Alot of amps make more power then they claim, was looking at alot of the new Alpine amps and they come with a 'birth certificate'. All there amps are tested prior to packing and one of the monos I think it was, rated at 600watts rms, most when tested where up around 660-670watts rms..................
So that aint really a deciding factor....................

Quite rightly so. It's not a deciding factor considering you wont hear the difference between 600 and 670 watts. Infact you wont hear the difference 600 and 1000 Wrms.

I will guarantee that you won't be let down by the quality of a Jaycar amp though. But, if you find something better then go for it! I'm just stating that from my experience you can't go past the Jaycar for money or quality. I'm quite happy to accept that there are better brands. I just haven't seen them yet. :)
