what causes brown exhaust smoke?

I think my old VP had this smoke. Cat was Toasted burnt out with crap flying out of it..

ecotecs are allways been known to chuff a bit fuel smoke under hard acceleration, i noticed the ecotecs that were on our track day chuffed a bit as they hammering down the straight, ls1's with a tune seem to do it to - depending on the tune,


but yes reddy brown can be from dust being blown out the pipes, more

Ive got an old mannual from 1973 that covers American cars and has a section on the exhaust smoke colours and its says
brown smoke = mice cooking in the exhaust system lol
