Anyone have any idea what oil holden use. I had my SV6 with SIDI engine serviced there 2 weeks ago. I checked the oil today and it is only showing about half way between the centre mark and the bottom if the stick. I have had this car over 12 months now and its had 2 services since I have owned it and has never used any oil. I checked it cold and the car on flat ground. I would not think the car has used that much oil and am more inclined to think holden didn't fill it to the correct level. I now need to buy some to put in.
I have read a thread about holden not filling oil correctly before but could not find it. The owners manual says 5W/40 but am unsure if synthetic or mineral oil is best.

oil should always be checked hot and on level ground.

FULL synth is the way to go.

whatever they can get cheapest in bulk in the required specs.

mineral oil is only used in older engines these days, ecotecs and old holden 5ls. alloytecs and LS engines full synth.

And oil should be checked based on the dipstick, if its only got a cold line then its checked cold, if its got a hot & cold line then check them both as required.

I use semi synth purely because my goto guy was telling me it is much better than the fully synth, Something to do with it wears out cam lobs quicker.....

If you can use semi synth, Holden will prolly just use recycled oil...hahahaha

Go back to the dealer and I'm pretty sure they will top it up for you.
Each dealer buys different oil that is Dexos 1(I think) rated.

You need to take it back to the dealer, and at the same time ask them what oil they use.

It SHOULD be as per your books with the car.

I think you will find some dealerships dont even use dexos rated oils.
Personally I just supply my own dexos2 oil when I get the service done. (ACDelco dexos2 made by Fuchs, as mentioned above)

From the Dexos site, Dexos1 is for gasoline engines and Dexos2 is for light duty Diesel engines.
