If I was to buy a ve commodore what ones to avoid due to timing chain issues? I just read a comment that said 2007 they fixed the issue, so if I was to search 2008 onward, would that be safe enough? I’m talking about the v6 as well I notice v8 ss models have jumped up to fifty percent in price last 2 years. So looking for ve sv6 2008 onward, would they have timing chain issues? Thanks guys

Yes a well maintained VE from late 07 onwards should be a good car. After that it just depends how much you want to spend and which transmission it has. The six speed is better if you look after it.

Simply buy the best VE you can find.
Look for immaculate service history.
Do not be afraid to spend time checking the books from start to finish for time of services and that correct fluids were always used.
Check engine oil, auto fluid, and coolant fluid is red.
Check for crash damage and repair.
Is it immaculate inside?
Does it drive well?
What has been repaired?
Money owing on it?
Just a very few things to look for.
Good luck.

I'm believe that the VE 09/2010 onwards was the point from when the timing chain issue was resolved I think before that the problems were happening. I have a 11/2010 LLT SV6 and ( touch wood ) no hint of any timing chain issues.

SS Commodore - Ford Territory ... both camps
LS2 or LS3 is the way to go dude. Look hard, they are getting so cheap now.

In 2 months from now, you will never get a better time to buy.

Job keeper ends in September and things are going to get grim.

He's not even chasing an SS, let alone the HSVs you mention. Also JobKeeper has been extended until March :)

Any well maintained and serviced VE is a good buy. I have a series 1 06 SS and have never had a Single problem with it in 10 years of owning it. Only time a spanner has turned on her is when I’ve done upgrades or mods.
