Hi all, I've got a set of 14 x 7 chaser steel rims for my VX II sedan and want to get your ideas on what size tyre to go for.

I know the standard size is a 205/65R15 but it there anything better to get away from the grandpa look.

Obviously I'm no tyre expert but looking for perhaps a lower profile to give it a tougher / meaner look. Just looking at an all round everyday use tyre and don't want to spend heaps.

Thanks, Bruce

If you want a lower profile, you need a bigger rim, otherwise you'll change the overall diameter. The most you could do with what you have is put 225/65/15 to make it look a bit better from the front and back.

I'm a little confused. Is 14 x 7 a typo? I ask because I have never heard of 14 inch "chaser" rims. My experience has been that "chaser" or "pursuit" rims came in 15 or 16 inch rims usually off police cars which was where the name came from. There were 17 inch but they are, I believe, alloys.

I'm guessing typo. OP check my thread, page 21 for some decent tyres on 15 x 7 Interceptors. Biggest you can go is 245/60, I went 235 as the 245's are a tight squeeze. I'm putting 215 on the front to reduce lateral play. The cops ran 225/60 standard on these rims.

Pretty happy with the look.

'chaser' means 7 inch stockies. A 15x6 isnt a chaser aka cop rim.

Also these alloy or Ive heard magnesium alloy compound wheels are reused or destroyed and never released to the public. The steel 15x7 rims are a ute rims and there wider to get a higer load rating.

Now tyres buy 245/55R15 for more tread or look into a 225/60R15

Sorry guys my mistake. They are 15 x 7 and I've got FE2 springs on the car. From reading the posts where someone said the police used 225/60 I think I'll go for them. Thanks for the info and I'll double check my posts in the future.

15x7 hard to find now a days

Agreed, more so in good enough nick to use. I spent a while searching for mine, but they're mint. Also doesn't help because of the unofficial names they have, the 15x7 variant seem to be most commonly known in the game as Interceptors - a shared name with the Falcon cop car rims of the day.
