I've got an 06 statesman 6l v8 just wondering if it's a l76 or l98 and what the difference is?

l98 mate. it is the VE 6.0( excludes AFM) the L76 is the 6.0 but with the AFM disabled. pretty much the same.

VE II SV6
L76 with AFM disabled was in the last of the VZ's (2006 prior to VE release). L98 was the standard 6.0ltr for Holden VE V8s (Auto and Manual) from August 2006. L76 was reintroduced in the VE (MY9.5/10 I think) with AFM active in Auto's only. All manuals prior to the release of series 2 used the L98. As mentioned both are 6.0ltr
