Hey guys im new to this site...love it. Just wondering what the differences are between the different rb... i keep seeing. eg.rb30, rb25, rb30dettetc. the list seems endless. Which is the best?

skyline engine or ls2 6l ? of course v8 no doubt

rb 30 inline 6 used in r31 and vl, best rb25. 2.5 litre syline engine comes in turbo, vg30 3l quad cam good engine alot of great things,24 valve, rb30t used in vl turbo. If you want to win Buy a ls2 6.o litre v8 new engine from holdens show the turbos the way. SUBDUE

Yeah, i will agree...later on down the track u will need to replace the turbos as they wear and everything, ive been there. V8 all the way mate......6.0L.....droolllll

Hmm, didn't really explain to him what it all is.

RB is the engine series. Some people call it Race Bred, but theres no official documentation for that.

So RB - Series.
20-25-26-30.. capacity.
e.. - electronically fuel injected.
t - turbo charged, tt - twin turbocharged.
d- double overhead cam.

rb - 2.6 litre twin cam twin turbo fuel injected.

sweet. thanks for that. makes it all make more sense. cheers. One question though. If it has det for example, does that mean that those things have to have come standard or will the code still apply if something was done aftermarket?

I'm pretty sure it means that it comes standard with those features. For example, if you turbo an RB30, its still classified as an RB30. :rice:

Yeah, if its from the factory as an rb30et it should be turbocharged.
However if someone has converted an n/a to turbo it will be rb30e still. Which you'll see in the VIN number as something else I think?

So you ask lots of questions and knock the price down.

Still if it is a genuine RB30E that has a turbo on it this does not necissarily mean a bad thing. The n/a version has a higher compression ratio (of course) and therefore is quicker off the mark (an more fuel efficient.) If a turbo has been added to system carefully with a good tune then it should be quite a rocket. You won't be able to wind up the boost as much as a RB30DET because of the higher compression and lesser internals but you won't get the same off-boost lag either. The RB series of engines in any state are a really strong engine that take well to modifing as long as you do it carefully.

If you're after genuineness then yes, check for the T. But if you are after a generally good engine package, take a second look, and ask to see all relevant documentation for the conversion.

Then beat the price down anyway. :yeah:
