Found this on the HSV Forum quite by accident while researching Grange's.

The first photo is the car itself and the second is the engine bay. I couldn't believe what I saw in that engine bay. See if it grinds your gears as well.

But not a Grange though with a 215i Engine that's for sure.

Yeah dunno, the taxi I saw at the car wash a month or two ago was a Caprice. NFI what engine he had under the bonnet. I was thinking now if I need a taxi he is the one I want to pick me up, because it was sparkling inside and out. He was giving it the full treatment vac and hand wash.

As for gas I have been put off that after this clown in Lonsdale fitted it to my old Jeep. It was fine for 5 years, but it was downhill from there. I had issues with it over here and took it to a gas place who is really good but exi. They said the bloke who fitted it used an average system and did a shotty job. Yet before he fitted it he was crapping on how he does all the Toyota's for CMI and he uses the best gear, NFW did he...

Why does it have a Caprice grille? At least with the S2 Granges there's no mention of Caprice anywhere.

Don't like the gas, get rid of it. It's not a problem on the 5L based stuff like it is on the V6s, although injection would have been far better than a mixer setup. The LPi Falcons with gas injection make more power than their N/A counterparts, so gas isn't all bad.

What blows me away is that someone spent all that money on the highest price Holden available at the time and then been a tight ass and fitted gas to it because of the fuel consumption on a 215i ??? some people just get to me.

Did they come out with the 215i engine or did someone just put the covers on?

They absolutely did.

Below is a breakdown on Series 1 and 2 production figures.

HSV VS Grange Series 1 was released in April 1995 and were produced until September 1996.

There were a total of 82 S1 Granges built.
47 of these were the 185i's and 35 were 215i's.
HSV also made 12 S1 Caprices with the 215i motor fitted.

On release, the Grange 185i sold for the sum of $62,500 and the Grange 215i for $73,500. The Caprice was $83,500.

Series 2 from September 1996 to December 1998
185i built = 78 ($72,500)
215i built = 83 ($83,500)

The above information has kindly been loaned from the HSV Forum.

Now as far as the Name "Grange" is concerned I am advised that officially the name "Grange" wasn't used until the Series II and the Series I's were simply known as HSV enhanced Statesman's, but have been affectionately dubbed as Grange's as they were the actual forerunners to what we commonly know them as now, much the same as how the first Holden was a 48-215 and was affectionately dubbed the FX.
