Where to get a 5l starter motor ?

People on the net and Holden are trying to charge me 280 for a new one and 170 or a second hand is this right ? Does anyone have a link for any cheap ones please !!!!

Price sounds about right (not too bad actually) for a new one. Second hand can vary greatly, depends on where you look.

EBay. You can get them brand new for like $120. I bought one off there for my clubby and it's been in for 3+ years now with zero issues.

Think I paid around the $200 mark from them last time

Your first mistake was trying to buy one from holden

As demonica said ebay is the cheapest, but I have had some dud starters from ebay in the past (unless you can find a genuine one)

Can often get decent prices from vpw or rocket industries. Just takes Time for freight

I got a new Bosch for $180 I think it was and its one with the heatshield covering the starter... Was off ebay but picked it up in person

just make sure you get a gear reduction / high torque starter. i paid $290 for a reduction a few years back. i'd probably just go brand new, the difference is unbelievable, cranks over 2-3 times faster than my busted old starter that used to drain the battery after 10 seconds of cranking.
