I get this very faint whistling/whirring sound while accelerating from 40-80 @2500-4500rpm under certain conditions, (last I heard it was cold and wet at 2am), i feel stupid saying it kinda sounds like a turbo, but i'm PRETTY sure theres no turbo under the hood :p Could it be an exhaust leak?

I had the same thing, mine was an exhaust leak where the extractors bolt to the Y pipe that leads to the cat.

I didn't fix it myself I got the garage to do it while they recond my power steering pump but I imagine some CRC gasket cement would do the trick, if thats what your problem is, chuck your hand down there and have a feel.

check the PCV hose, or aka the purge hose. will connect from behind the manifold and run to the TB.

if its split can cause noise.
