will a shift kit solve trans slip?

hey guys i had a play around with the kickdown cable last week :banstick: and have noticed that now my trans takes longer to change into gears and revs out a little while changing. so my question is, will installing a stage 2 shift kit and corvette servo fix this problem? its in a VP 5.0 litre calais. also i was wondering what the name of the trans is called in my car too. im not very well minded with holdens.

You could try adjusting the kickdown cable bait more if it is worse since you played with it

A stage 2 shift kit would make shifts stronger and give you more control of when you want it to shift

The trans in you car should be a t700

ive tried adjusting it in and out a few clicks but it doesnt seem to do anything except make it worse

mate try adjusting it the other direction, that will make your gears hold out a little bit longer before it upshifts but it will speed up the shifts nicely :w00t:

i would pull the sump off and take out the filter, break it in half and check there is no clutch material in it.
sounds like it could be on its way out.

I would never recomend shift kitting a t700 without fitting a beast shell and heavy duty sprags at least, which basicaly is a full rebuild anyway.

yes they do have manual kickdown but if its flaring its probablly about to crap itself.

ive tried it both ways mate but its the same either way, just slips changing up gears.

if its slipping bad either way the kickdown is adjusted, then that probably means your tranny is on its way out. yer a shift kit should probably fix your problem (depending on what the actual problem is), but to install a shift kit into a dying transmission is not too smart as a shift kit increases pressure in the transmission and will kill the tranny very fast. if i was in your situation i'd start looking around ebay and the wreckers for a cheap transmission to swap over when yours finally karks it. in saying all this, your problem may just be you have overfilled your transmission oil too much, overfilled oil can cause all sorts of dramas. well good luck with it anyways mate

Get a $100 - $150 tranny service done by a tranny specialist, don't tell them you think it's dying and they'll change the filters and fluid and make all the adjustments correctly and give you a report on the condition of the beast that you can use to decide where to go from there.
