Lol.. I do socialise...at home with friends or at their homes, car shows, road trips etc. I stopped drinking when the hangovers started lasting longer than the buzz...

I know it's a little late but this is what I was referring to earlier in the thread about "someone" who uses all the power at home.

Great ad.

I would imagine they are using the marketing model that puts similar type stores in the same area in the same way that car yards tend to be in a cluster.
I thought they were arrogant enough to believe that the way they close down, say, a local independent greengrocer or butcher would work on Bunnings. Effectively being "We're Very Much Here", and discounting everything the greengrocer or butcher is selling (at least until they drive said small shop out of business).

You may well be right... I'm not familiar with them or their past history. Bunnings are fairly sizeable though and would probably be able to weather that kind of approach better than a small independent butcher. They may have just been building close to Bunnings to cash in on the 'established traffic' in the area seeking building products.. ie we usually go to Bunnings but this item is pricey..let's see if it's cheaper/better across the road..that's why car yards do what they do.

I recall for a couple of years at least before its eventuation there was this hype about the coming Masters warehouses. Multiple news stories and lots of questions as to why it was taking so long considering Bunnings continued to be a run away success.

The answer was always that we’re taking our time, learning from any weaknesses & mistakes that Bunnings has experienced, while at the same time making sure there was an edge of difference…no doubt referring to their intention to sell white goods but also their polished concrete floors and ventilation akin to air conditioning. (Up until then Bunnings had more of a warehouse feel than it does today with very poor ventilation etc)

Well for all their strategising and delays in getting things up and running that worked out well for them didn’t it?

Exactly, and walking through a Masters just never felt right. Like buying a lounge suite from a fish shop kind of wrong. Apparently they designed the feel and presentation of their stores to appeal to women customers. Hmmm if that's the case it explains a lot, I mean how many women do you see buying hardware and building houses? They excluded the majority of their clientele. We were slowly warming to it though as their range was wider than bunnies and some brands were better but that fish shop thing was always wrong.

Masters were way better than Bunnings for metric fasteners. Bunning is useless for any car-related fasteners if your car was made after about 1960.

Problem for me was the closest Masters was at Greenacre, so most of the metric fastener packs were opened & had had half the contents stolen.

I needed some small tacks to nail 3mm plywood to the back of a cabinet I made for my dart board. Bunnings price was about $4. On another occasion I went to a hardware shop close to where I live, same tacks, same packaging $15. I don't bother them too much now. Any time and it's least once a week we take our dog to Bunnings. As long as she is in a trolley or muzzled and on a lead they are quite happy. In her case it is a trolley. She loves the attention from the staff and quite a few of the customers. Not many places you can do that.

Yeah. Bunnings is useless for pool pump pipes and fittings as well. Masters did seem to have a lot better range than Bunnings and I did frequent them more than Bunnings when they were around.

I think they could have made it work if they weren’t trying to be in direct competition to Bunnings with their locations. They were too late to the market as well and expanded way too fast to become profitable.
