AttaBoy appears to have buggered bearings in the compressor which require disassembly of the compressor which really means its cheaper to buy a new one.

The same thing was happening to me and it turned out that the bearings in the compressor were shot, so i replaced the compressor and all was well. You are also correct in saying that it is much cheaper to just replace the compressor.

Thanks for the info guys, well... I decided to just chuck a new compressor in and throw the old one out.

I know its not gonna be cheap but I'm prepared to pay for brand new one because I'll be keeping my car for a few years. Now I need to get some quotes off several places and go for the cheapest I can.
