I'm having issues starting my arbjust wondering if a screwed key would allow you to crank the car but shut off straight after it cranks

Yes, this happened to me a few months ago. Car would crank a little then nothing with the key still in the start posi. Just started using my spare key and don't have any trouble with it. The immobiliser could also be at fault in the sense that the key isn't talking to it, so when it happens again just lock and unlock the car and try because that seems to also work.

Sometimes the little sticky outy bit on the key doesn't make contact with the 2 tabs on the ignition barrel when you insert the key. You can use a small screwdriver to CAREFULLY bend them out a bit , you only need to bend them out a fraction .

Your key fob is flat.
Replace and recode and your car will start.
Had this happen in the VT last year
