I mistakenly read the specs for a VY V6 instead of for a VZ, and so just changed the oil over with 20W-50 instead of the correct 10W-30.

Anyone know if this is a major issue likely to cause me problems, or can I go with it until the next oil change?

It wont do any immediate danger , give it a week or so , and use 5W 30 , which is the correct oil to use , change the filter too .

Don't sweat it , the car wont break down straight away .

It'll be fine. Generally on Ecos around the 200k mark I recommend moving to a 15-40 or 20-50 especially if you're getting a bit of noise (i.e. lifters). But yeah no harm will come maybe a tiny bit of economy loss by comparison.

20w-50, Probably a good thing with this heat wave, change it before winter, although, 20w-50 is good for -7 deg C, so you'd still be good in S.A.

Car is up to 160k so by the sound of it it not such a bad thing then.

NO dont leave it ... if its a 3.6 alloytec.. change it to 5w30 asap Lots of evidence running thick oil leads to timing change tensioner issues and sump sludging... I have seen the results.. Look at is as a really good flush ... drop the oil in there hot so it all runs out

I would change it when you can, sooner then later

Can get by with it, wouldnt redline it or give it grief though until its changed.

Whoa! Lets not overreact here folks. I run (well used to run) 20-50 instead of the usual 15-40 for street meets in the warmer weather. You need to remember that Holden themselves recommend 10-30 through to 20-50 for the Eco depending on circumstance.
