For this I had to go the wreckers and get a VT Calais clockspring connector with the extra 2 wires in terminal 3 & 4 and a VT Calais clockspring because the factory clockpspring doesnt have the 3rd connector needed for steering wheel controls. The clockspring was $44 and the clock spring connector was free.

I used heat shrink crimp connectors on the horn and airbag wires and I used screw terminals for the radio control wires to enable easy removal if needed.

I bought the radio controls on eBay for $38

The radio I installed is an Erisin ES896T Erisin ES896T Detachable 3D HD Car Audio DVB-T(MPEG4) GPS TMC PIP [ES896T] - US$338.00 : erisin.com

Here is a video of them inaction: Installed Steering Wheel Controls - YouTube

This is just after I finished the last 2 connections.

Nice results. Couldn't find any cheaper crappier connectors for the wires eh?

For the 2 wires to the back of the radio? Cause the other ones for the airbag and horn are crimp and heat shrink (the heat shrink is at the ends of the crimp that has a glue that is activated by heat ie: a blowtorch do you get the grip of the heaths rink and the bonding of the glue with the wire insulation ) which we use at work on truck electrics.

Unless there's something better that I don't know about?

Oh yeah I used the screw terminals for easy removal of the radio if needed.

I decided against soldering because this is neater and soldering requires either electrical tape(which looks bodgy and gets messy) or shrink wrap which I don't have any of. Also my crimping/heat shrinking skills are far superior than my soldering skills :p

Don't mean to bag your electrical joins

but how the hell do they look better than solder? they look tacky as hell.

as for "quick removal"

were these too hard to use were they?

I don't no why he replaced the clock spring plug, all he had to do is go to jay cay and get 2 extra pins , no messy joiners just clip positive brown or red into hole 3 from the left , then the negative to pin 4 that easy with no cutting the plug much neater, that's what I done, I fitted a eonon unit with steering wheel control works a treat, model of unit G2240A awesome unit for $270AUS
