My missus parents live in malanda they said they slept all nite an there is #### all damage there so they were lucky, i really think they just hyped it up to much. But it could have gone the other way an if they didnt do what they did people would be up in arms today.

Good news mate! It's really good news all round so far! Hardly any damage compared to what should have been done by a cat 5!

Well a lot of the towns that were hit were done over by Larry so a lot of it is new stronger buildings. But still Im talking to family up there and they have pretty much no damage. Just windows etc.

I don't want to start celebrating yet, but by the look of it, most of the major cities (Cairns and Townsville and Innisfail etc) have dodged the bullet, unfortunately for the crops and for Tully and Cardwell and Mission beach, they have been pretty badly hit.

I think we can all say it could have been much much much worse. A plus side is that there are no deaths reported or serious injuries as yet.

3 babies were born overnight in Cairns also, bit of a reminder that new life symbolises the endurance of the people.

Very lucky.

Condolances to those people that have lost property and belongings though.

I've spoken to my friends and family over there this morning and relieved to hear everyone is well.
Now will see what I get out of it as it heads west

Yet. I shudder to think how many will have died. Just heard on the radio lots of smaller communities not yet accounted for including 100 people at Caldwell. Let's hope they all got through ok.

It's Cardwell, man.

Town of about 1400 people, they will be found and hopefully all good.

Oops that shows i'm not from up that way doesn't it! :embarrass Although i've always wanted to live in nearby Townsville. I actually won a job up there in '07 but knocked it back, what a stupid decision. Anyway i digress. I was just listening to the ABC and the QLD premier sounds confident so maybe (hopefully) there were no fatalities. If that turns out to be the case, the odds would be like a 200 to 1 outsider winning the Melbourne Cup!

Lack of fatalities goes to show that even the ones who stayed, were well prepared.

Either that or the media made it out to be allot worse then what it was.

Doesn't really make allot of sense.
