Did you miss the First Fleet discussion in primary school?
I won't poke fun at ignorance but It's not an argument, I suspect teacher tell your class dumbed-down porkies and you have yet to realise that Australia was discovered and settled by the British?
History of Australia is a good read, as is the biography of James Cook, which explains his parentage and professional life prior to appointment for the voyage (only narrowly got the job over another Scot at the last minute).
The majority of the people on the First Fleet were British, but there were also African, American and French convicts on board. Three out of the first six Governors were Scots, Port Arthur was patrolled by the Black Watch and various Highland troops.
Without a long diatribe, I live in Brisbane, named after a Scot Governor, Queensland was established by Logan, I work in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale - both settled by Scots.
If you are in any doubt about Australia being settled by British, not the English, test your theory on St Andrew's day or even St Patrick's day next Tuesday with a t-shirt proclaiming Australia was colonised by the English.
It's a common misunderstanding, mainly from foreigners, who tar all English-speaking Australians as English.
Unfortunately it is precisely because we are colonised by the British as to why we can't just
Kill the English.
