That's just wrong. I can add a power point to an existing circuit, I just can't add new circuits.
It’s stupid. Replacing a power point isn’t rocket science. There’s only three wires and they are labeled/colour coded so as long as you’re not a complete numpty you can’t really screw it up, yet it’s illegal here to change out an existing power point, never mind adding a new one.

That’s because of the numpties.
Natural selection. Except even then it’s not as every house should have an earth leakage safety switch so the numpties are safe anyway!

The old man was giving me a hand to renovate the kitchen of a house l had just purchased. The range had to be disconnected at the wall and he asked me to turn the power off. I went outside and switched it off at the mains board.
I had turned the biggest switch on the circuit board to the off position. Luckily he checked before he disconnected the main wire for the range as l had turned the power off for the hot water cylinder.

The funny (strange) thing about such (over) regulations is proving and enforcing them. How the f*** can anyone tell who last tightened up the screws on that powerpoint or light switch?

True. It’s only illegal if you get caught!

Electricians dont climb power poles are linesmen allowed to change power points I didn't think they were allowed past the main switch?
Where I use to work for 30 years the last 15 years I was a Special Class Maintenence Electrician, payed big bucks (have a Diploma of Industrial Electronics with Control Engineering )( very good of fault finding) that includes PLC, (Program Logic Controllers) Yes I was a rare breed, I was involved with Electronics and I was involved with 11,000 Volts. Now one of my duties beside working in a High Voltage switch room (authorized to do this) I was license to switch to up to 66Kv and in this as a example I HAD TO CLIMB the power pole via a ladder, prove the 11Kv is dead for the poor Linesman and for the Normal Electrician to see that he might have to run a conduit up the pole with cable so the linesman can connect. Yes had to prove that the 11KV line was off and safe to work so the workers can work close to the 11Kv. Put it this way I had to test the line that is safe + put EARTH STAKED yes 3 off them on the 11Kv line.
Have you notice I talk about my Satellite hobby that is very very complicated, full of complicated Electronics You dont get a average Electrician to know or do this work, you have to be a specialist in Electronics but at the other side of the scale I was a specialist in HIGH VOLTAGE.
Its very hard to find a person that has a broad knowledge that far apart.

You must never trust anyone with your life. I never trust anyone when it come to anything that has power going through it.
