    installing extractors

Its no small job. They of course need to be fitted from underneath, and most shops lift the engine from the mounts for a fraction more room. You will also need to undo the steering on one side to make room. If you get a matching Y-piece the pipes will bolt up to the cat meaning you don't need a...

    New car smell

I used to know a guy who somehow ingested radiator coolant or something similar and as a result he was allergic to nearly all petrochemical related products. This included synthetic/nylon clothing, carpet (which is nearly all of it) and plastic car interiors. He had to drive Benz's because they...

    Strut bar brace?

When the suspension on a vehicle is designed it is important for as much unwanted movement to be eliminanted as possible. This unwanted movement causes variations in suspension geometry which might affect turn in, accelerate tyre wear or a number of other things. This movement might be is the...

Don't forget the Peter Brock Lada Samara. All 1297cc's of pure aggression that it was. He might have been an A grade wheelman but he'd put his name to anything for a buck.

What does your VP V8 ute rev at 100Km'h?

VS V8 sits at 2600rpm at 110kmh and its standard except for 17"'s. Does nearly all its driving on the freeway and best mileage so far has been 502klms from 53 litres. Driving like miss daisy.

    6x9's in the back doors?

6x9's require more to operate efficiently than a 10" sub does. If you put them anywhere other than the rear shelf they will sound terrible and rattle everything

VS to VT Brake Upgrade Questions

Adaptor kits are available everywhere on eBay for about $350.00 including rotors and braided lines. This will get you some VT rotors fitted to your stub axles. You will notice a slightly longer pedal travel after the conversion.

    Optimax Extreme, reviews?

If you potter around town on your big bore bike it WILL foul the plugs. Moreso on a ZX9R because they're carbied (I own one). You will notice it's harder to start after a while too. If ever you've had to remove the plugs on one of these you'll know it's worth the hassle to give Shell a miss!

pacemakers & redback exhaust - fuel consumption

Definately further. More bottom end too. Exhaust note didn't change a great deal but it'll now chirp into 2nd under W.O.T. I have also noticed it has affected the size of my manhood and members of the opposite sex are taking a greater interest ;)

ECOTEC V6 DRAMAS (oil thickener miss-use)

Leaking rocker covers on the V8's with rubber 'gaskets' is a common problem. I know of one mechanic who took his VT SS back so often he asked them to get rid of the rubber and use ultra blue. The dealer had him sign a disclaimer for using non gen parts. Do the 6's have rubber gaskets too?

pacemakers & redback exhaust - fuel consumption

Got my Pacies and Y piece fitted yesterday. The rest is mandrel bent 2.5 inch with dog leg, resonator, std cat and auto. I only do highway driving mainly but gimme a week if I remember and I'll put up my results. As it was I normally got 470k's before alarm bells went off. And on that note when...

    Dyno Tuning In newcasltle NSW

You can't "tune" injected cars these days. If you're looking to throw your $$ away say hello to TRG at Cardiff. No nonsense guys. They normally focus on performance cars but will be glad to help.

buying a vs ute, common problems?

If you can afford it look for an 8. They often get a bit more TLC than the workhorse 6's. Mine spends most of its life doing Highway driving and coz of the light weight I get V6 type economy as long as I behave.

    Backfiring or Spitting Back

Might want to look at fixing that.. Could burn a valve and make a simple problem an expensive one.

    Backfiring or Spitting Back

The Impco converters (most common type available) are a pretty crude piece of machinery. If a spark is sent down the lead to the spark plug and it fails to fire for whatever reason, the spark will run back up the lead and can jump across to another lead and down to this spark plug. If this...

    Trailer/LPG

Gas cars hate the heat. If you're having dramas filling the tank try doing it of an evening or first thing in the morning. Ford reccomend this with the P.O.S. gas only cars they produce. (When will they move onto gas injection like the rest of the civilised world! I know they still use leaf...

FAV339 - Dont dream, its over...

    Are ultratune anygood?

If I was a mechanic i'd get the sh!ts with the general public for all the above reasons. Yes there's some shonks out there. You find them in every job. But often mechanics seem to get a raw deal, eg "I got my engine oil changed and then the auto sh!t itself. The apprentice must have flogged it...

    DIY kill switch

Nearly all kill switches disable fuel at the pump or spark. These are the first place crooks look if the car won't start. Try putting it somewhere different such as the injectors. Its still only a matter of fitting a switch, just somewhere different to everyone else.

What Oil Do you use in your car

Speak to any experienced metallurgist and they'll tell you that to an extent, changing the oil regularly is much more important than what you put in. I go for something with a good SL/CF rating and try to change it at about 7000k's. Of course if you put rubbish in your car this isn't true. At...

    Auto VS on a dyno

Is it an inertia dyno? Inertia Dyno's are not the not adjustable and not the most accurate if you're only interested in peak hp output. Boot leak

If you're towing anything of a decent size you used to be able to get genuine 'tow kits' which consisted of a metal bar on each side of the boot floor to the top somewhere in the boot. Stinky petrol smell in VS ute

I think I read on this forum a while ago about someone with the same problem. A dealer mechanic provided a similar solution to the one I mentioned earlier only I don't remember the specifics. He said he'd done a few. I knew I should have saved it!! But I'll try some injector cleaner first. I...

    5.0L SS exhaust costs/performance question

Keep an eye out on Ebay. I just picked up a set of Pacemakers for my VS ute for $500.00. And I have an idea these are heat coated too. I didn't order the Y piece as I already have one which made it $50 cheaper, and freight was $23 from Victoria. This was from a mass supplier too. Not some...

Stinky petrol smell in VS ute

When left in the sun for a while a strong petrol fume smell sometimes finds its way into the cabin. This also happens occassionally when driving with the window down.
