Bad engine oil leak VE V6 3.0 SIDI 270k

Can you take a clear photo if there's room? If the housing Congress of without to much fuss then might charge you 1 hour labour? Have never had a close look at the housing.

Does it hold pressure? Genuine Holden and Mackay are the only caps I've ever seen work on an Alloytec.

    VE Cooling System

One of the little hoses runs from the filler neck to the top of the radiator. That is the one. When the filler neck is full you pull the hose off the fitting on top of the radiator and that allows air to bleed out of the radiator. You will see or hear air coming out and then a steam of coolant...

    VE Cooling System

Bleeding through the heater hoses would probably work but sounds like a pain in the ass. I have only ever bleed it through the radiator cap and the little bleed hose. But the first time you drive it after filling it must be a VERY short drive. maybe after cracking 3 radiators the heater hose...

As car ages, more miles..should oil W rating be changed to suit?

No making much sense so far. 15W40 is thicker than what you are using now, and 5W30 is even thinner again. Why have you switched to a thinner oil? Most people recommend using thicker oil as the car gets older, not thinner oil like you suggest. Maybe you went too thin and made it more noisy...

    vy commodore strut tops

That's a worry if somebody is selling struts that are not assembled correctly. Did you take any photos of the struts before you installed them? Were the rubber strut tops definitely new? By the way they sit with the rod sticking up so high makes me think the strut tops could be old and...

Did you sort out the problem? The new nuts could be the wrong type. I have always had to re use the old thin nuts to avoid this issue.

    vy commodore strut tops

Look's very wrong. The top washer should be facing up from memory, and the nut under the top plate should be a thin but not a nylon lock nut. Did you use a new nut or reuse the old thin one?

They are all cashless now. Have been for probably 15 - 20 years. No more baskets. I used to drive on one of the toll roads so often I got to know one of the guys who worked in the booth, three seconds at a time LoL.

    Captiva/VE interchangeable

I don't think they ever put a 200kw motor in a Captiva. But a few engine parts should be the same like the oil filter housing.

Confusing. I would think you would want help, food, a bath or whatever when you crawl out of a gutter so it would kind of be good if someone took pity on you and helped you out but you are suggesting pity is a bad thing so confused the **** out of me bro.

Vf lfx has a shudder or miss at low acceleration

So that's how you tell the difference? And also, so what your saying is if you ever need to find the bloke in a pub who owns the Harley outside, look for the bloke with a boner and no teeth?

Vf lfx has a shudder or miss at low acceleration

Depends what you call shaking. The LFW sometimes shakes for a second at the lights which seems to happen when the show idle mode kicks in before it settles down. Have I been reading to much technical papers on my engine?

Other than Round up (glyphosate) the options are go to Bunnings or similar and try the other non selective weed killers. This stuff seems to work quite well. Some people say glypho is carcinogenic. Wouldn't surprise me if it is, but are the others any better....? Your yard is obviously not a...

    Approximate value

If you have a mint VF and don't drive it I'm pretty sure one day you will wish you did. I mean, what are you saving it for? If somebody offered you a low km stream engine tomorrow for only 25,000 bucks would you buy it? That's a very good price for a steam engine you know?
  19. G

    Approximate value

Sounds like you need to drive the car a lot more to me. If we say value of 20k it has already lost half of the new car price but driven less than 10% of its potential.

Help oxygen sensor connector drive side

Ah yes I know the one now. I had to rig up some funky piece of string or fishing line to reconnect the plug. Probably used pliers to squeeze the tabs in to disconnect it. 10 years ago, I'm just glad I only had to do it once ;)
  26. G

Help oxygen sensor connector drive side

Not easy. Can't remember which way I did it but only 1 way would work for me. I think I connected it first before screwing it in, that way there's more slack in the cable and I think I did it through the engine bay. Or are you talking about the post cat sensor beside the transmission?

To oil change on kilometres, or calendar?

It's not really the age of the oil that matters, within reason. It's the amount of water, fuel, combustion products and any other contamination in the oil that matters most. How does it look and smell?

    Brake system drain

That was the word on the street when abs first came out 30 years ago but I have heard several people say since then that it was just a scare campaign. Brake system drain

There is no special drain. Most people say the process is the same. If you normally get the car serviced by a mechanic then get them to flush the brake fluid.
