Mine did something similar, the DFI module was faulty in mine, but have a feeling there could be a number of reasons that could be causing it.

Took the car to another mechanic, they recommend not putting a second diff on from the wreckers, have to go with a reconditioned one as most times the diff's from the wreckers are usually no good, don't know if this is true or not, costs for diff and all installation they think is about $1,400...

Did you replace the strut mounts (bearings) themselves when you replaced the struts? mine made similar noises and this seemed to have eliminated the problem.
