Auto Transmisson VS s2 7hdd into VS

I have a VS 96 6hdd and I have a VS s2 7hdd to put into it
will this fit and work they both look the same on the Bell housing
smoth casting on will I need to mod some thing as I have a whole
VS2 for parts if needed any help in this area please

If they both have the 13 pin electrical connector, it should all be ok. Some VR 4L60E's (3HDD or 4HDD) only had 12 pins in their connector and these arent compatible with later (VS) models ,as they wont run properly,even though they will physically bolt up.

I thought I read on here once the 7HDD has a different thread for the cooler lines.

use the vt or vx trans lines and take the computer selector module of the vs box and put it on the new box, thats all I did to fit a VX box in my VS oh and grind a bit of bell housing under the starter motor to fit past the exhaust, I have pacemaker headers so you may have to do more if yours is standed.

When I changed the engine and auto transmission as a unit last weekend, I had to change the brass auto cooler line adapters that fit to the gearbox. You can use the same cooling pipes tho.
Just swap them over from your old gearbox to the new one prior fitting.
Everything else is the same to fit back up.
The auto that was in my 96 VS is marked 7hdd on the white paper sticker and was really smooth changing gears and selecting drive or reverse even if moving still, somewhat nicer than the one that is in it now.
Might change it back one day.

As above, just swap over the cooler fitting and thats it.

Apart from larger cooler lines, the 7HDD has an upgraded valvebody and convertor lockup solenoid over the 6HDD, as far as I remember.
