Castrol Edge engine oil. My local Holden dealer will not allow me to use Castrol Edge oil in my MY18 2018 Holden Calais V AWD they say causes soot.

The critical point for your vehicle was the LPG, not the oil. LPG burns a lot cleaner than petrol and thus produces a lot less soot. I do my oil changes every 10,000kms and the oil isn’t even dark brown on the dipstick yet at that mileage. I use Penrite HPR5 5w40.
I’ll even go 15000-18000 intervals on LPG country driving without worrying. I do try to keep it to 10k intervals though. I use full synth 5w30 edge.

Different dealers have contracts with different oil companies.

I know a Holden and Hyundai dealer that contractually uses Fuchs yet Hyundai have Castrol as a brand affiliate.
Fuchs Australia blends oil for ACDelco.

penrite has a history of sludge events in engines, any decent oil will be black after 5000k

Not with an LPG engine it won’t. LPG doesn’t create anywhere near the same amount of soot as petrol so the oil stays cleaner for longer. Also plenty of people on here run Penrite and I haven’t heard any complaints about sludging.

penrite sluding was in late naugties when a lot of shops were doing cam swaps on vy and vz's with low kms. Was on ls1 forums not on there now days.

From what I've read in the V8 forums. More people on JC seem to use Penrite over any other brand.

It seems to be a decent product and why not support a local manufacturer.
