VS II Ute
Basically my diff ran dry as it had been dripping, although the day after the 'whine' noise started I got oil into it the problem continues (mechanic didn't check oil level upon service). Plan to keep this ute and work on it so will replace the diff, but until then what additives are available I could add to a thick gear oil that would reduce noise?

A tube of Nulon G70 additive might help.
Once a diff runs dry the bearings tend to be shot and no amount of thick oil or additive will stop the noise, but you might just be lucky.

Lol, I suggested that to my mechanic tongue in cheek as an interim measure until I get mine rebuilt.

He just went "Hmmmmmmm"

That's because he knows it is only the skins you put in there...only a novice would put the whole banana in.

I'd fill it with 140 hypoid oil and drive it gently. As mentioned above, the bearings are probably badly worn now but the thicker oil may cushion them. A 2nd hand centre is only a few hundred $$$$.

How do you get whole bananas is such a little hole. Hmmm, probably should have phrased that better. Lol.

there is a product out on the market made by promar called mbl8 it works wonders on diffs and noisey lifters
