Steam cleaned the underside earlier this week. (Wednesday) and hunted my garage for a universal rack boot that I've had kicking around for an easy 10+ years.
RH rack boot replaced and cleaned around the area this morning. Now waiting in line for my recheck.

neighbor has one sitting in their backyard. birds have taken a liking to it however & they never wash the thing, so the paint is likely stuffed.

Success.
Car is all legal with a fresh WOF and license plate.
It came in about $70 under budget from my original estimate which is good. I certainly did not get burned on the gamble.

And even if we decide to sell the car, and taking into account all the hours spent on it, we would still make a profit.
I do need to do the driveshaft centre bush though, as it is completely flogged.

Nah it's definitely still not worth alot in a sale.
It's just an acclaim.

Replaced the driveshaft centre bearing today.
The bearing itself was good, but the rubber around it was split for say 270°

The replacement bearing I got online and on arrival it's a macheter Chinese one. Let's hope they make better bearings than they do with their terrible starter motors.

Just drove 400km across the country, 5-up with the boot full.
V6 power seems sufficient. Trans shifts well and shift timing is good. Brakes are fine.
Temp gauge sits just above C.
It snuck up close to half with A/C on and waiting for the lollipop man at the roadworks.
I think I'll test the gauge one day with an idea to replace it.

Put the dash into diagnostic mode, in the last step it tests all the gauges. Temp gauge should move to half way.
