VS II Ute
Hey, just after some advice. I’m having fault 31 coming up on ‘96 VS Ute, turns over but won’t start. As far as I understand it’s the BCM not sending a signal. I also think the key might be broken.

My question is, will either of these 2 fixes work?
1) replace BCM + key fob
Or
2) get a new key and program it to BCM.

Secondary question, is there a way to tell if the BCM is malfunctioning?

Cheers.

you will need a tech 1 or equivalent scan tool to see if the bcm is seeing the key chip
another reason to always have 2 functioning keys

If nothing has been changed at all probably keyhead.

Can you lock/unlock doors then start car..got 40secs to a minute before security light flashes again.

Sometimes just need to flip key if it's worn but think can still get new keyhead coded.

You can get security disabled. That's what was done to my VR that had code 31. The code will always be there but at least it will start.

I had my BCM scanned and someone had turned off the VATS in the BCM according the place who tested it. It wasn't until later that I fitted a VATS disabled memcal as well.

I looked into getting it turned back on again but was quoted over $400 to fix it.

Turning VATS off in BCM is not same as fitting VATS disabled memcal. There was a bloke around when I had my VR who you could send your BCM to if code 31 came up and he would do something to BCM. It was like $50-$60 for him to do it. He couldn't fix the BCM though so VATS worked again. I was referred to Injectortronics if the name serves me correct, who quoted me on price to fix it.

No the bloke just disables the VATS in the BCM. Like I said my BCM was done and I wanted to get it put back on but was going to cost too much.
