I put some Plumber`s Stag and two clamps on a toyota thermostate housing pipe and that worked.
The pipe was chrome and very slippery.

Is that that blue stuff Pete?

I hate it when I do a search and find the outcome was never posted, lol!

Mate it did ok with the gasket goo, slowed the leak down a bit but not fully. Funny thing is though every time I've tightened the clamp it's felt like its as tight as she'll go but I'll go back to it a few days later and get a few more turns out of it. It has actually stopped now! So now more leaks. It would put my mind at ease to put a longer piece of hose on and an extra clamp, could've done it today when my new heater tap shat itself but didn't really have time too.

I did all the coolant hoses and found the same thing one of the hose clamps needed tighting after a good while like a 1000k or so.
First time it every happen to me.
The hoses can be tighten up till the rubber starts coming through the slots in the hose clamps ( you can feel the bumps ).
The next day after I go around and nip all up abit or they are right.
I`m glad you got it sorted.
One thing did you think of cutting the pipe with a small pipe cutter or is there no room for it?
Cheers Pete.

You have to be careful that you don't overtighten them. Tight enough means they will not leak and too tight means that they will cut into and damage the hose. I personally would use no sealant as I figure it may assist in allowing the hose to slip off the pipe when under pressure. I'd also wire the heads on the 2 clamps together so they cannot separate.

I'm very short on patience when doing fiddly car stuff and it is a tight spot so I just went straight for my grinder :D
