Doing my heater tap as it leaks, Do i need to have it turned to cold when i remove the old tap?

Can't see that making any difference as your removing it from the car. When you fit the new one turn it to hot after you have refilled the cooling system and your bleeding the air out.

No worries, just be careful when you tighten up the hose clamps, the heater tap can crack fairly easily. Also do you know how to bleed the air from the cooling system?

Consider changing the hoses and clamps if they are still original.

its never a bad idea mate, i try to bleed my car every fortnight or so, only takes about 7 seconds and you only lose a really really really little bit of coolant
