Guys if you check out V8 supercars website, (dont know how to post link accross), holden are proposing a return to racing cars more representative of road cars.

It may be the first step back to 'meaningful' racing ....rather the the plastic nascar style fake racing we have currently.

Yeah - it was in the paper the other day.

Best answer would be a Group A type formula. No turbos or AWD. I'd love to see the 500 hotties get released every year but in reality it's not going to happen thus homologation of parts will have to be based on another model. Expect a 10 year lifespan of the series before it needs to be reinvented again. The Brutes category would be an excellent basis to start with.

very vague on this but i watched a race on tv the other day which was getting back to what i enjoy seeing. it was low budget, mostly vt and au falcons and the odd vn i think. I can't remember who was heading it but i think it might have been at oran park. wish i'd taken more notice now!

i've said before - i actually miss seeing that uncontrollable body roll on mt panorama - it all looks the same now and despite still enjoying watching it i certainly don't get the same thrill.

Its not really what they are saying. They are basically saying they don't want it to become like NASCAR's silhouette cars. At the moment, the cars do look like Commodores and Falcons. Look at the Toyota Camry in NASCAR. That thing does not resemble a Camry at all.

As long as teh cars look like their road going counterparts then there will be no problems.

One thing there shouldn't be which I'm sure the Brute formula has is different rule for each make. A simple rule wold be, base models only for racing, basic suspension mods, camshaft and head mods allowed (porting only) and tune them however which way you want. Leaving them with standard bottom ends and a 7000 limit would be fine these days. Keeping them with base model cars would keep the costs down, ie no specials but it would force them to put the top line engine as an option on the base models which is a good thing

I don't think the idea of base model cars only is any good. I would say that the majority of people would prefer to see an ss/xr8 or even gt/clubby get around a track rather than a poverty pack omega or xt.

Fantastic racing that stuff. I think its just called saloon racing - ummm grabbing at the memory strings a bit but "E" class comes to mind.

SBS have it at times and it's top stuff to watch - like the HQ's great racing at times.

Yes, its saloon cars. It got abit boring in the fact the same guy won it 2 (maybe 3, stopped keeping track) years running.

like most people have said, I'd also love to see touring cars get back as near as possible to the road going models. The current series is a load of crap - Commodore SHELL against Ford SHELL. Diff oil coolers, massive fuel pumps... and all sorts of rubbish that you don't find in either model.
They are nice race cars , but they are not commodores and falcons.
